They don't make them like they used to.....

Listen to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher speaking on the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War.

Although nearly 17 years into retirement, her speech (for Forces Radio) sounds both considered and passionate in a way few politicians sound like today. She even chooses to touch on the conflicts in the world today.

Whatever your politics, it seems there are few politicians that have come close to the calibre of Margaret Thatcher to this day.

Amen!

I just finished reading the newly published Reagan Diaries. Ronald Reagan (America's greatest President, bar none) absolutely adored Margaret Thatcher, and believed her to be among the greatest leaders the free world has ever known, and criticizes those who claim that he alone was the biggest influence in ending the Cold War, claiming that Thatcher played an enormous role in that victory.

Her Falklands anniversary speech brings tears to my eyes. Reagan and Thatcher were crafted from the same precious fabric, and, unfortunately, during these perilous times, there appears to be no one willing or able to step up and fill their shoes.

One of my favorite photos of the Two Giants:

Thanks for the link to her eloquence.

Joanie,

Thank you for your oomments.

I agree with what you say about the Reagan and Thatcher leadership of the free world in the 1980s.

Good to see you have returned to the world of blogging. I will keep an eye on your blog once again.

I too, have had a minor break as "real life" seems to get rather busier. Hopefully I will also be resuming some more "thoughtful" writing in due course.

Best wishes

Luis
