Don't Snow for me Argentina....

Still on my 2 weeks' paternity leave here hence some spare time as there's only so much a Father can do for one baby when he has a good Mother and a hyper-active Mother-in-law staying too.

Saw this on my web travels:

Snow falls in Argentina
10 Jul 2007
Snow has fallen in the Argentinean capital for the first time in almost 90 years, reports the Associated Press on July 10th.The news provider states that Buenos Aires received a sustained snowfall for several hours yesterday after a mass of air from Antarctica reacted with a system of low pressure. This was the first major snowfall in the city since 1918 and prompted many local children to play outside and throw snowballs.According to a local meteorologist, such a phenomenon is extremely rare and is a once in a century event.

Maybe there is no need for Al Gore to turn all the lights off in his mansion just yet............ Oh actually he wasn't going to do that anyway- that just goes for the rest of us !

Argentina-Chinese tunnel

Signs that the London Met Office's grasp of geography is not all that it should be ! Here is an actual report from today: (bring back Michael Fish !)

Snows close South American highway
17 Jun 2007
Heavy snow in the Andes resulted in the closure of the Cristo Redentor tunnel on the border between Argentina and China earlier this week.
The Associated Press reports on June 13th that snowfall on Wednesday left thousands of trucks stuck on roads on both sides of the border as officials closed the tunnel for an estimated 72 hours, according to the Telam news agency.

Drivers were advised to find other places to cross the border while the high winds and snowstorms continued.

The Cristo Redentor tunnel is located 10,400 feet above sea level and is 1.9 miles long.

Not London Cannon Street !

For all commuters who are frustrated by regular train delays, such as I experience sometimes into London Cannon Street, here is an alternative response to the usual sighs and muttering. In Buenos Aires, Argentina yesterday they rioted and set fire to the station !

All this, due to a train that failed to depart on time. If this took off in London, I don't think there would be many stations left standing !
